Emerging Artists Commissions: Michelle Boulé
Michelle Boulé is a dance artist, teacher, and BodyTalk practitioner based in New York. She has been performing and teaching internationally over the last 12 years, receiving critical acclaim for her work as a performer in New York and abroad. For her Emerging Artist Commission, Boulé will conduct one-on-one Authentic Movement sessions with non-dancers, which will involve dialogue around what it is to witness oneself and another person. From this she’ll create a solo that re-examines what it means to be witnessed in a performance setting–how this experience can be shared between the audience and the performer–and why the ritual of experiencing a live, informed, moving body is actually necessary today.
ISSUE Project Room’s Emerging Artists Commission program is made possible, in part, with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature; and by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council.
